"Modelling and behaviour: diverse approaches to pollinator conservation. From climate-driven species distribution models for mountain butterflies to behavioural responses of insular bees competing with honeybees."

The global decline of pollinators demands a multifaceted response based on a clear understanding of threats at the species and population levels. This seminar will present two complementary approaches to pollinator conservation, each addressing a different type of threat operating at distinct spatial and ecological scales. Species Distribution Models (SDMs) can be used to assess the impacts of climate change on mountain butterflies, identifying vulnerable populations and supporting evidence-based conservation planning. In parallel, the effects of high-densities of honey bee hives on wild bees via resource competition are examined through manipulative field experiments, focusing on behavioural responses. Together, these approaches illustrate how both modelling and behavioural studies contribute to tackling current challenges in pollinator conservation.
