Dr Marta Skowron Volponi received a prestigious scholarship as part of the START competition organized by the Foundation for Polish Science, thus joining the group of 100 outstanding young scientists at the beginning of their scientific careers.
In her work Marta focuses on the phenomenon of multimodal mimicry in insects, especially in clearwing moths (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) resembling wasps and bees. She is currently conducting extensive acoustical analyses of diurnal moths in the rich natural areas around Białystok, and also continuing her work in the rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand. These studies are part of her SONATINA project financed by the National Science Center and carried out in cooperation with dr Francesca Barbero, dr Luca Casacci and dr Simona Bonelli (University of Turin).
